I finished reading Black Canvas a week ago and it has taken a few days to organise my thoughts and feeling into coherent sentences for this review.
Black Canvas is dark and twisted from the beginning. This book will play with your mind, it will have you guessing and questioning what you read, it might even make you question your own level crazy too.
I found that Laura Rossi’s writing style captured my attention from the beginning and held it until the very end. Even the times when I had to put the book down, I found I was still thinking about Aria, Ivy, Max, Mattias, Gabriele, Lilliana, and Claudia. I was constantly trying to piece everything together, trying to guess what was coming next.
I managed to work out the link between Aria and Ivy, as well as the link between Gabriele and Max too, but I did not quite have the reason that linked them to each other. I did not know for certain if I was right until later in the book, so there were still times when I questioned my own thoughts.
Black Canvas shows a whole new level of twisted darkness that is inside Laura’s mind! I thoroughly enjoyed reading this story and gaining an insight into that darkness. I hope that this is not a one-off, I would love to see more dark twisted stories from this incredibly talented author.
I do not think that my review of Black Canvas will ever do the book the justice it deserves without giving away too much of the story.
If you like psychological thrillers that are dark and twisted, then I honestly think that you will enjoy reading Black Canvas and becoming immersed in Aria’s disturbing world.
🖤 About The Author 🖤
My name is Laura Rossi and I am a dreamer, the kind that walks around all day and likes to go back and forth, from the real world to her own little world.
I have two kids and a fantastic partner. We work together in our little pharmacy in Italy.
After travelling around the world with my family and living abroad a few years, I graduated in Criminology and Psychology in London and worked with juvenile offenders for two years, before moving back to Italy.
I’ve been writing since I was thirteen but never published any of my manuscripts until 2016, when I completed Counterpoints book 1 after many happy, sleepless nights.
I am allergic to staticism, I cannot sit still. I love to travel and meet new people. When I am not busy working or being a mommy, you can find me at a car race event (I am a big Formula one fan) or at a rock gig, or on the beach fantasizing about new character and new stories I’d like to write.
On the run from her mobster stepfather, Ashlee Gabrielli knows to trust no one. When Ash stumbles through the gates of the Citadel looking for a place to hide, she has no idea the men here are shifters.
Tobias Santini is the leader of The Order of the Phoenix. The cadre’s superior has guided his men and protected their women since the first fated mate was found. With everyone else in relationships, Tobias remains alone, serving as guardian to them all.
When he discovers Ash hiding in the garden, everything changes. She’s the image of a woman he loved and lost a lifetime ago, and she’s in trouble. Taking her under his wing, Tobias vows to protect her—even from himself when attraction sparks between them.
Ash is inexplicably drawn to the silver fox superior. Eventually, he reveals their past life connection, but he’s still keeping secrets. She has one, too, possessing a dangerous gift that no one foresees. With forces unfolding their insidious plans and a final showdown brewing, the men of the Citadel will need every ally they have to survive the wrath of the vampire Etienne. Yet even that might not be enough this time.
This epic Season One finale has BDSM, consensual power exchange, dark themes, and potential triggers, including a history of child abuse. The first DD/lg book of the series is written for Ages 18+.
Guarded Hearts Season One features The Order of the Phoenix. Season Two will feature members of The Order of the Dragon, Hell’s Fury MC, who appear as secondary characters in Season One. Hell’s Fury MC: Dangerous Curves (Guarded Hearts Book 7.5/Season Two Prequel) debuts in the Twisted Steel 2 MC Anthology out 13 April 2021.
A native Brit, I live in Italy with my husband and daughter. When I am not writing and drinking copious amounts of tea, I enjoys taking photos of my adoptive country, trying to stay fit with running, reading amazing books and being a stay at home mother.
I love reading and writing romance, contemporary and historical, with a special fondness for stories with BDSM and/or menage relationships. I enjoy crafting characters that will stay with you long after you’ve read about them. Their stories are layered, with topics like PTSD and autism, with elements of spirituality and mysticism, with psychic gifts and everyday challenges to be met and overcome.
A lot of me goes into my books. I’ve done psychic readings at Irish festivals (like Grace in SOMETHING ELSE). I have cowritten music like Anna in SOMETHING MORE. Rachel’s story was the most challenging because of the themes involved. A dear friend struggles with post-rape PTSD and two of my nephews are autistic. SOMETHING MORE addresses some of the challenges they face.
Gael Fournier is harboring a secret—one that threatens to jeopardize his brothers at the Citadel and their fated mates. Broken, scarred, he refuses to open up to anyone, especially his partner Elijah.
Unwanted, Elijah Marley fights to break through to Gael anyway. Watching him from afar, nothing he does seems to pierce the wall around the Frenchman’s heart.
One chance meeting brings them face to face with their fated mate, Sam Henderson, a psychic medium who talks to the dead. Gael’s hostile reaction drives Elijah into the arms of another whose destiny is linked to theirs.
Angry, alone, Gael unknowingly walks into the clutches of the monster who’s been stalking him the whole time. After Elijah is unwittingly thrown into danger, too, it’s up to Sam and Father James Carver to race to the rescue of both men.
Not an easy task when their enemy is a vampire hell-bent on claiming and keeping what’s his….
Shifters with a sci-fi twist, Guarded Hearts Season One (Books 1-7) follows members of The Order of the Phoenix. Each book in this interconnected storyline provides a happily-ever-after for the main characters. While the first book of Season One can be read as a stand-alone, the following titles need to be read in order, beginning with Morgan (Guarded Hearts Book 1).
This story has potential triggers, including forced compliance. MMFM ménage erotic romance with MF, MM, and MMF scenes, written for Ages 18+.
“Sammy, get that one to bend over for me, would you, hon, so I can check out those tight buns of his in those jeans?” she murmured.
Sam bit her lip and swallowed down her reply. She’d had plenty of weird looks when people thought she was talking to herself. No one could see Grandma. They only heard her one-sided conversation which made things awkward.
“Oh, yeah, come to Grandma,” the old woman crooned, circling around behind the men and eyeing their tushes.
Please don’t get handsy, Grandma, she mentally warned and hoped she was listening in. Bum pinching was Ellie Mae Henderson’s afterlife obsession. Okay. Sam would admit they were both drop-dead gorgeous. The blond had a broody, bad boy vibe going and the other one’s smile was bright and friendly. His eyes twinkled and there was something about him that made her warm all over. She really needed to get laid. It had been months since her last hook up. Not since North Carolina. Her grandmother’s inability to keep her hands to herself had ended every relationship she’d ever been in. Her longest had lasted a month until he’d gotten spooked. Once Grandma got grabby, it was goodbye, boyfriend.
“Come on, girl! Don’t just stand there with your mouth hanging open. Charm these fine young men. Winner, winner, chicken dinner. Play your cards right and you’ll have some dark and white meat in your bed tonight. If it makes you feel any better, I promise I won’t watch.”
Talk about killing the mood. Sam shook herself and focused on the men who’d come with Prince.
“I’m Sam,” she repeated. “And you are…?”
“Elijah Marley.” The handsome black man with the blinding smile had a Jamaican accent. He had his hands full holding the Irish wolfhound, who was straining to check out Gus.
She looked expectantly at the broody one, a tragic blond with a dark shroud clinging to his shoulders.
“Gael Fournier,” he clipped in a French accent, as unhappy to be here as Elijah was delighted.
She intuited that they were partners but they sure didn’t act like it. If they were in a committed relationship, it was on the rocks. She sensed a separation looming with a chance of a reunion. The future had yet to be determined. It would have to be both their choices to make things work. Otherwise they were doomed to fail.
Which was too bad. They really were a beautiful couple.
Sighing, she wished them well. Just her luck to attract two gay men. She seemed to have a knack for it.
“And this is Prince,” she hummed, dropping to her knees. Putting her hand beneath his muzzle, she looked him squarely in the eye. “They tell me that you’ve been chasing a cat. Want to tell me what that’s all about, hmm?”
In her mind’s eye, Sam saw a blanket that used to be the dog’s. Somehow the cat had gotten hold of it and hidden it.
“You need to help them find it,” Grandma told her. “Go on! Tell them what you saw! If anyone can handle your truth, it’s these boys. Trust me.”
Sam lifted her chin and met their gazes, shifting hers back and forth between the two of them.
“The cat—Gibbs?” she asked Prince, double-checking what she thought he said. “Prince says that Gibbs stole his blanket. He’s only been trying to get it back. The cat’s hiding it somewhere on the property. If you like, Gus and I can do a search-and-rescue…, help find it and restore peace in the household. I’m afraid Prince isn’t going to stop until he gets it back. He barely tolerated the cat before this. He seriously dislikes him now. Sneaky thief, he says. And my precious. Dear Lord. He says he likes Lord of the Rings on movie night. This is one seriously fine animal you have.”
Gael remained stonily silent, eyeing her with suspicion. He wouldn’t trust easily. There were scars on his soul that might never heal.
Elijah looked at her in wonder. “You are a conjure woman, yes?” he asked. “You see things. Hear things.”
Gael curled his lip and made a scoffing sound.
Sam refused to apologize for her gifts. “I don’t do spellwork,” she told them. “I don’t intentionally conjure things, but I do hear them. Spirits. Animals. Trees. My grandmother. She’s gone but she’s still very much with me. My gifts are what let Gus and I be such a successful search-and-rescue team. When the trail goes cold, I can point him in the right direction until he picks it up again. Look, I know this is as unconventional a class as what you could imagine, but I’m happy to give you a refund. I just want to help Prince find his blanket. And I’ll have a talk with Gibbs while I’m at it. Hopefully, he’ll see the error of his ways. With cats, it’s hard to say. Too many of them remember when they were worshiped as gods.”
“Yes!” Elijah agreed excitedly. “We would be honored with your presence and help in our home.”
Gael’s jaw tightened but he didn’t say a word. The look in his eyes, though, spoke volumes. He didn’t believe a word she was saying—or at least he refused to.
“Great!” Sam replied, brightly ignoring the cold blue eyes directed at her and Grandma’s satisfied smirk. “Let’s start the lesson and then we can work out when I can come over.”
Prince turned out to be a good listener. Full of energy with a boisterous nature, he loved to play. Gus was a good influence on him. Well-trained and patient, her partner helped to show the younger dog what he was supposed to do. By the time the lesson was up, Prince and Elijah both were more confident with each other. Unlike Gael, who hung at the back of the room like a storm cloud. He hadn’t attempted to interact. Instead, he’d watched and silently judged.
“That one’s a project.” Grandma commented, eyeing the Frenchman. “He needs someone to take him in hand.”
Sam’s traitorous thoughts slid to a certain part of his anatomy she would love to take in hand. From the way he filled out his jeans, he wasn’t short or small in that department. Feeling her cheeks heat in a blush, she shook herself. Holy Batman, what was she thinking?
Hired by the Devil himself to finish a job, it will cost me and my brothers our lives if we don’t complete it.
When dark and dangerous secrets bleed into our path, claiming our feisty female might come at a steep price.
Throw the insanity of Karma into the mix, and none of us might get out alive.

This series is getting better and better with each book! Even though this is part of The Ceasefire Series, you could read it without reading the other books first.
This book is packed with action from the very beginning, and it continues to be full of action until the end.
The plot is steadily paced, thought-out and well-written. The author has created a very realistic world and set of characters. The details given her enough to allow a mental image to form in my mind as I was reading and make you feel a part of the story as it unfolds.
It was very easy to feel a part of the characters’ lives and adventures. Which for the most part is fantastic, until reading the more painful parts of the story! But then if I did not feel the characters pain as well as a happiness then I guess Claire would not have done her job properly.
A Hellion Heart is most definitely an action-packed emotional rollercoaster from beginning to end. And it’s that fantastic mix of action, drama and emotion from Claire’s writing that captured my attention, drew me in and kept me turning the pages needing to know just what was coming next.
I don’t know where Claire gets her ideas and inspiration from, I only hope she continues to get them. Her work is a genuine twisted joy to read.
A Hellion Heart may be able to be read as a stand-alone, but my honest opinion would be to read the others first; or at least straight after! This is another fantastic addition to an already epic series!
Absolutely loved every page!
Catching me, he lifts me effortlessly off my feet. One hand restraining my arms to my waist, the other cupping my face in a cruel grip. “You just can’t control your fiery temper, can you?”
Hand sliding from my jaw to my hair, he twists it titling my head to his. A hard-sensuous mouth clamps down on mine cutting off my snarl of outrage.
I can’t deny the powerful recognition the kiss brings. Resentment ignites at how he wields it in an alpha way to force submission. I’m shocked to the core to feel my strength draining away. In its place, a strange relaxed sensation seeping through my body. It leaves me shaking and confused.
As his tongue probes deeper, a murmur of anxiety leaves me.
The sound of voices filters in. Instant awareness of where we are and who’s watching is like being doused in ice water.
“Perhaps I’ve just found a way to curb your hostility,” Cade rasps against my mouth. When he moves to kiss me a second time, I sink my teeth into his bottom lip.
A growl rumbles through his broad chest, but it’s not with anger. His amber eyes pull me deeper into a place I shouldn’t go.
“Release me.” I don’t like how my voice sounds so weak and shaken.
The arm around me slackens enough for me to push a hand against his chest.
‘Bright Lights’ AJ Starr is a pro wrestler on the rise, and his life is about to change forever. Knowing this, he plans one last party with all of his best friends. The venue? Saxon Hills theme park, abandoned ten years ago after its flagship ride burned down and killed nine innocent people. Some people say the place is haunted, but AJ knows from his time inside the squared circle that fantasy and reality are totally separate things.
Or so he thought.
AJ has no idea how nightmarish things are about to get, and eventually he’ll be left wondering whether he brought his friends to Saxon Hills theme park to have fun. Or to die.
I came across this author on Facebook, you know the sponsored posts; it was one of them. I got Dark Ride free by signing up for Iain’s mailing list. As much as I have a huge TBR list I pushed this to the top because of its genre, horror! I love a good horror book and it has been a while since I read a good one. Dark Ride however is a good creepy horror book.
It is set in an eerie, deserted, abandoned amusement park. Where a group of friends choose to spend an evening together inside one of its old rides. Which ride? Only the ride that caused the amusement park all its problems, the ride where people had died, as any sane person would do! Honestly, what could possibly go wrong? (I am not going to tell you that’s for sure)!
I feel that this author has done a pretty good job of creating characters that are realistic and will pull you into their world very easily, the big question is: Do you want to be part of their world? Given the situations that these characters are faced with I would say they handled them well; I don’t know what I’d do in their positions that’s for sure. They interact well together and occasionally they rub each other the wrong way causing friction too.
The plot is structured, it flows smoothly and is fairly quick paced. The events are set up by the author well and lead onto the next part almost effortlessly. The detail given allows a clear; sometimes maybe a little too clear; mental image to form as you are reading. The way Dark Ride is written will make you feel like you’re on an amusement ride too; the start draws you into your seat and clamps the lap bar down, then it takes off into the twists and turns, never slowing or stopping to let you off.
I devoured this book and have now snuck another of Iain Rob Wrights books to the top of my TBR list, a small confession; I’m hooked on that one too.
I’m glad I spotted this authors sponsored post on Facebook now, else I might never have discovered these creepy worlds that he has created!

I have had the pleasure of meeting this author at a signing event in 2017. I have had a few of her books on my Kindle ever since. And now I have eventually gotten around to reading The Crying Boy, I only wonder why I didn’t read it sooner!
The Crying Boy is a creepy, chilling read. It is packed full of intrigue and suspense with threads of horror entwined.
Jane E. James has put a lot of time and hard work into this book and that is clear to see in the detail included. It is these details that snared my attention and sucked me further into this book, I was hooked within the first few pages and devoured every single page as and when I could.
The characters are well written, and most are likeable. The Shaws have been through a lot before moving to Swallows Nest, and their struggles are far from over. But these two refused to quit and they kept fighting for themselves and for each other! I really enjoyed how these characters interact and they are easy to relate to.
The Crying Boy was a creepy, addictive and thoroughly enjoyable read from its very beginning.
I am so glad I finally made time to pick it up and read it.

Jane recently signed a two-book publishing deal after her 2nd novel, The Crying Boy (a compelling suspense thriller inspired by actual events) became an overnight best seller on Amazon, knocking both Stephen King and Dean Koontz off the top suspense spot.

A few of my friends had read this book/series and told me it was good, so I decided to give book #1 in the series a read. I can honestly say that I was not disappointed! I will be continuing with the series.
It Ain’t Me Babe is fast paced, and it is gripping from the beginning. It tells the twisted stories of the characters well, and what a set of characters they are. Each one is unique and brings many different qualities to the overall story.
Tillie Cole has written this book extremely well; it is clear to see how much love and emotion that she has given her work. Her writing style is clear, informative, and highly addictive, it will ensnare your attention and hold it until the very last page.
Her characters are well rounded, they have and do endure so much, you cannot help but be sucked into their lives and feel for them. These characters will find a way into your heart and make you want to know more. They interact with each other well; they talk, they argue, they fight. They display their emotions in ways that can be related to by just about everyone.
I am looking forward to reading book #2 and the rest of the Hades Hangmen series.

Amazon & USA Today Best Selling Author, Tillie Cole, is a Northern girl through and through. She originates from a place called Teesside on that little but awesomely sunny (okay I exaggerate) Isle called Great Britain. She was brought up surrounded by her English rose mother — a farmer’s daughter, her crazy Scottish father, a savagely sarcastic sister and a multitude of rescue animals and horses.
Being a scary blend of Scottish and English, Tillie embraces both cultures; her English heritage through her love of HP sauce and freshly made Yorkshire Puddings, and her Scottish which is mostly demonstrated by her frighteningly foul-mouthed episodes of pure rage and her much loved dirty jokes.
Having been born and raised as a Teesside Smoggie, Tillie, at age nineteen, moved forty miles north to the ‘Toon’, Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, where she attended Newcastle University and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts honours degree in Religious Studies. She returned two years later to complete a Post-Graduate Certificate in Teaching High School Social Studies. Tillie, regards Newcastle to be a home from home and enjoyed the Newcastle Geordie way of life for seven ‘proper mint’ and ‘lush’ years.
One summers day, after finishing reading her thousandth book on her much loved and treasured Kindle, Tillie turned to her husband and declared, “D’you know, I have a great idea for a story. I could write a book.” Several months later, after repeating the same tired line at the close of another completed story, she was scolded by her husband to shut up talking about writing a novel and “just bloody do it!” For the first time in eleven years, Tillie actually took his advice (he is still trying to get over the shock) and immediately set off on a crazy journey, delving deep into her fertile imagination.
Tillie, ever since, has written from the heart. She combines her passion for anything camp and glittery with her love of humour and dark brooding men (most often muscled and tattooed – they’re her weakness!). She also has a serious side (believe it or not!) and loves to immerse herself in the complex study of World Religions, History and Cultural Studies and creates fantasy stories that enable her to thread serious issues and topics into her writing — yep, there’s more to this girl than profanity and sparkles!
After six years of teaching high school Social Studies and following her Professional Rugby Player husband around Europe, they have finally given up their nomadic way of life and settled in Calgary, Alberta where Tillie spends most of her days (and many a late night) lost in a writing euphoria or pursuing a dazzling career as a barrel-racing, tasselled-chap wearing, Stetson-sporting cowgirl… Ye-haw!
