Bonds by Marie Anne Cope

✫.•° Blurb °•.✫

Do you know who hides in your past?

Half the village of Breccan lies dead – slaughtered. All that stands between Antony Cardover and his freedom is his wife, Isabella; or so he believes.
In his wrath at his wife’s adultery, Antony trades his soul for the chance of vengeance. His price? An eternity as a monster – a man bearing a vampire curse. To stop him, the curse must be broken. To break the curse, Isabella and all her descendants must be destroyed. The catch? Only Antony can break the curse.

With Breccan in mourning and Antony on the rampage, only one person can help. Anna Martindale, a witch shunned by the villagers, entombs Antony within a stone sarcophagus, bound by spells and buried in hallowed ground for the rest of time.
Breccan breathes again. Time heals.
That was four hundred years ago.

Seventeenth century spells, however, are no match for twenty first century living. As Ramply Homes moves in, the secret of St. Martin’s churchyard prepares to move out.

As the church is desecrated, the spells that hold Antony break. Soon, Becca Martin, a descendant of Isabella, is plagued by dreams of a time and a man she cannot possibly have known. As her nightmares become real, Becca has no choice but to contact the one person who will be able to help; someone she has not spoken to in a decade – her mother.

Here, Becca discovers the truth about her ancestry and is forced to face up to whom and what she is. Only a wooden box and her gift hold the key to her survival.

Four hundred years ago Antony failed.
He will not fail again.

✫.•° My Review °•.✫

I purchased a signed copy of Bonds from Marie-Anne Cope at an author event in October 2018. It was in the run-up to this event I first found out about Marie-Anne Cope and her work.

After reading the blurb for Bonds I decided that I needed to read this series. In November me and my fella headed to Wales for a holiday so I grabbed my signed copy of Bonds and took it with me. I read Bonds in a little over a day! Once I started reading I quickly became hooked.

Bonds is the story of Antony Cardover and Becca Martin.

Becca is living life in denial. Why? Because she is a witch, but Becca has spent many years refusing to accept this. Becca’s grandmother tried explaining her ancestry to her but Becca didn’t want to accept it. So she has spent many years denying her ancestry and living a normal life.

Anthony is a very old part of Becca’s family history! Anthony has but one goal to break the curse that was placed on him 400 years ago. And he will stop at nothing to succeed this time!

Bonds is written incredibly well. It shifts effortlessly between Becca’s life now and Anthony’s life 400 years ago. The way the story is told allowed me to build a very clear image in my own mind of the events that will happen in. The way in which the past and the present are explained created a clear understanding of why the characters are the way they are. Anthony’s past explains his behavior both then and now. Becca’s past also gives an insight into why she chose to deny her which ancestry, but now with Anthony on the loose she might have to come to terms with it and finally accepts who and what she really is.

✫.•° About The Author °•.✫

Marie Anne Cope was born in Marlow, in the UK. She has worked as a salesperson and a banker, before eventually training as an accountant, working for over a decade in practice and industry before setting up her own business. Marie is also a yoga teacher.

She is presently writing three series.

The BONDS series is set in both the seventeenth century and the modern day and follows the unusual relationship between Becca Martin and Antony Cardover. Becca is forced to face up to her birthright as a witch in order to survive and help Antony in his quest to break his vampire curse.

THE MISFITS follows the adventures of four supernatural friends – Achoo, Mina, Boo and Zoe – who are all failing at being what their parents and teachers expect them to be. During their adventures, they learn that being different, being unique, is not just okay, it’s perfect, as they help others in need along the way.

TALES FROM A SCARYGIRL are collections of short horror stories which not only seek to explore what lies beyond the veil that separates this world from the next, but also what darkness lies deep within us, waiting for an opportunity to escape!

Ashes To Embers by Claire Marta

✫.•° Blurb °•.✫

She’s forbidden.

Temptation personified in a curvy package of sugar and sin.

My one job is to obey the rules.

Keep my dick in my pants and forget the new nanny.

Be a good little soldier as the Devil himself raised me to be. Problem is I can’t.

I care more than I want to admit. I’m not supposed to have a conscience. Blood stains my hands and taints my soul.

There’s no escaping the chains that bind us, when duty threatens to destroy us both.

✫.•° Book Links °•.✫

✫.•° My Review °•.✫

This is book 3 in the series. From Ashes and Embers is different though because this one is told from Raziel and Jane’s points of view, not Lucifer and Mavi. We still see Lucifer and Mavi but From Ashes and Embers Focuses on Raziel and Jane.

Jane has been hired by Lucifer and Mavi as a nanny to their baby. When Jane arrives there is an instant spark for Raziel. Lucifer warns Raziel not to do anything with Jane, he is not to touch her. An order which Raziel is finding extremely hard to abide by.

Jane comes across as a sweet, happy part fae girl, but looks can be deceptive. Jane is hiding something from them all, something that could get her killed.

Will raziel keep his hands to himself? Will Jane be able to keep her secret? Just what is Lucifer up to this time?

This book hooked me from the very beginning! It is packed full of action and emotion. From Ashes and Embers is dark and twisted, full of suspense and intrigue. It’s like a carefully woven web that unravels before your very eyes. The chemistry between Raziel and Jane is off the charts, however, these two seem like polar opposites!

Claire’s words are remarkable, they convey every emotion perfectly and make you feel as though they are your own. Her writing style feeds you the details as though you’re following a breadcrumb trail, they make you feel as though you need that next crumb.

The plot is well thought out and flows seamlessly throughout. It takes you on an epic roller coaster ride through emotions, the secrets the twists and turns, it’s the kind of ride you don’t want to get off of.

From Ashes and Embers fits this series so well. It was amazing to finally get an insight into Raziel and his life as the Devil’s second-in-command in Hell.

I have thoroughly enjoyed reading From Ashes and Embers. I can’t wait to see what Claire comes up with next in this series.

The Haunting Of Alice May by Tony Lee Moral

✫.•° Blurb °•.✫

Alice May Parker moves with her family to the sleepy town of Pacific Grove after her Mom dies, but little does she know the strange and terrifying events to come. When she falls into the bay during a kayaking trip, she is rescued from drowning by the mysterious Henry Raphael. Handsome, old fashioned and cordial, he is unlike any other boy she has known before. Intelligent and romantic, he sees straight into her soul. Soon Alice and Henry are swept up in a passionate and decidedly unorthodox romance until she finds out that Henry is not all that he seems. . .

✫.•° Book Links °•.✫

✫.•° My Review °•.✫

The Haunting of Alice May is centered around Alice May Parker. Alice and her family lived in Chicago until the death of her mother. After her mother’s death, Alice’s father decides to move to the small and quaint town of Pacific Grove. On top of trying to come to terms with the death of her mother, Alice now has to try and settle into a new place, a new school and make new friends.

In a bid to fit in and mix with these people, she joins a kayaking trip. Sounds like a great idea right? It would be better if Alice wasn’t completely terrified of the water. Whilst in the kayak and mist begins to roll into the bay, the group are told to head for shore. But Alice becomes lost in the mist, where she’s swept into the water. Alice is saved by a mysterious boy who we later learn isn’t exactly what he seems.

The idea for The Haunting of Alice May is really good. It’s a mixture of paranormal, gothic and romance which I feel should be enjoyable for young adults. I liked the idea behind an island for Souls, a bit like purgatory, where they are free to roam. It was different from anything I’ve read so far.

I’m not convinced about the romance aspect of this book as I felt it was a bit too weird and unrealistic. I know it’s only fiction but I found it hard to believe that a 17-year-old girl who found out her boyfriend is really a 100-year-old ghost, the first thing she worries about is how that would impact their relationship. Surely, there should be some kind of shock, disbelief, maybe even a little hint of Fear?

That aspect aside I did enjoy reading The Haunting of Alice May. I think the author has left the odd loose end, which I think could be used to expand this book into a series. If there is a second book then I’d give it a read and see what happens.

✫.•° My Review °•.✫

This is my review of The Mark Audiobook. This is also the first of Lee Mountford’s work that I’ve ever read/listened to. It certainly won’t be the last!!

The Mark is a fast-paced, suspenseful horror story. L. Mountford has written The Mark in such a way that it gets you thinking as you read, it makes you pause and reflect from time to time, or at least pause and look over your shoulder. I did this more than once!!

The Mark is a creepy and unsettling read, one of the best I’ve encountered for a while. That said for me I think the book/eBook would have been better for me, why? Because I don’t feel that the narrator does the book the justice it deserves, more annoyingly I can’t quite put my finger on why I feel like this. To me, it just felt off.

But don’t let that put you off if you fancy the book. I intend to get myself a copy of the book; either in eBook or paperback; and read it myself, after I’ve read some of Lee Mountford’s other work.

The actual writing of The Mark is really good. It’s easy to see that Lee has put in effort, research, thought and emotion whilst writing this. His characters have a good level of depth and are realistic.

It’s easy to become totally immersed in the world that Lee Mountford has created, and his words grab your attention and hold you there in the thick of the plot until the very end.

Overall this is a great creepy, check over your shoulder horror book. I’m looking forward to discovering more of Lee Mountford’s work!

Cabin Fever by Elizabeth Lynx

✫.•° Synopsis °•.

Have a destination wedding, they said. The mountains are so romantic, they said. They’ve obviously never been a runaway bride.

Olivia Love has it all. She’s rich, spoiled, and about to marry the man of her dreams—until she witnesses her fiancée with someone else, sending her on a little run. Down the side of a mountain. In her wedding dress.

When she finds a cabin in the woods, her relief is short-lived at discovering it to be empty. No phone, no heat, and no way back to her perfect little life. That is until a gun-toting mountain man fills the space and sends her heart rate skyrocketing.

Carter Fitzwilliam likes the simple things in life. His sheep farm, his privacy, and man’s best friend are all he needs until a smart-mouthed beauty in a white dress breaks into his cabin and threatens to complicate the hell out of everything.

She’s lost, looking for help. He’s hiding, only wanting to be left alone. Will she be the one person his heart needs to find?

If you like outrageously funny characters, sexy heroes, and a juicy opposites-attract story than you’ll love the first book in the Lost & Found series, Cabin Fever is the first standalone, laugh-out-loud romantic comedy book in the Lost & Found series by Elizabeth Lynx.

✫.•° Book Links °•.

Goodreads | Amazon UK | Amazon US

✫.•° My Review °•.

As the synopsis states Olivia Love has chosen to do a runner. And what a day to do it on, her wedding day!! But considering what she has seen could you blame her? I know I can’t!

For Olivia, the biggest downside is that she has to run down a mountain! When Olivia finds a cabin that she thinks is empty she feels relief. That relief is short-lived when she realises there’s no phone, no heating, nothing! And then a gun-toting man turns up, making her feel even more uneasy!

Carter lives in his cabin on his own and enjoys his simple life as a sheep farmer. He doesn’t want anyone else in his life except his dog and his sheep. So when he returns home to find Olivia in his cabin, he’s not sure what to think, except to get rid of her one way or another.

Cabin Fever is a witty, funny, sarcastic romantic story of an accidental meeting of two individuals. It’s not an insta-love story, these two have their own demons to overcome and they need to learn to trust before they can accept any kind of love that is offered.

The pieces of Cabin Fever begin to come together a little like a jigsaw puzzle, as they begin to slot into place it makes the desire to know more becomes stronger, making you want to read just one more chapter… then another and another

The characters are deceptive in that they appear to be so alike, but yet they so different.

I think that Elizabeth has got the mix of romance, wit, sarcasm, and humour spot on. She also includes a few twists and turns to keep the readers on their toes and to keep them guessing at what might happen next.

I couldn’t stop reading this book. I can’t wait for the next installment in the Lost and Found Series.

✫.•° My Review °•.✫

This is the second book in the Sam Pope series, and it continues in an epic way.

Sam continues with his one-man fight against the organised crime in London. The problem is whilst he is hunting the organised criminals the police are hunting him.

Whilst Sam is taking down another organised gang a desperate father walks in looking for his daughter. Sam agrees to help him find his daughter.

The hunt for the missing girl put Sam right in front of the task force who are hunting him and right in the middle of some of the most dangerous criminals in the country.

I have loved reading more of Sam Pope’s adventures The Takers is an action-packed thriller that had me glued to every page! I was hooked from the very beginning. I was glad to be back alongside Sam.

It’s clear from reading The Takers that Rob has spent a lot of time and energy researching, planning and writing this novel. Rob’s writing style fits this book so well. Rob feeds his readers everything that is needed to piece together the events and to feel a part of this story, it’s almost like following a breadcrumb trail.

✫.•° About Robert °•.✫

I am a thirty-year-old man child with aspirations of writing bizarre stories for a living!

Writing is my life and since I can remember it is something I have naturally done, be it silly stories at school or role-playing games during my teens. I was about 16/17 when I designed my first comic book series and since then have swung from idea to idea.

Then in March 2015, I released ONE BY ONE with the sole intention of getting one five star review. It far exceeded that and since then I have written DOORWAYS, which was signed up by Urbane Publications in September 2015 and released in October 2016. Again, the response has been overwhelming.

I saw my books hit the Waterstones charts but the end goal soon changed. I have since reclaimed the rights to Doorways and am now taking the Bermuda Jones series down the Self-Publishing route. It’s an exciting time.

I dream up rugged anti-heroes or crazy worlds on a fairly regular basis and I have promised myself they will all be committed to the written word. Believe me!

He came to fix her pipes. She never expected him to steal her heart.

The pipe burst in her basement, so she had to put the baking on hold to find a plumber, fast. But the job was harder than he expected and he wasn’t talking about her pipes.

✫.•° My Review °•.✫

This is a fun, flirty easy read.

We meet Heidi, the daughter of two senators. Heidi is genuine, honest and sometimes naive. She’s not that naive when it comes to her parents though; she knows that they manipulate her to get what they want.

Heidi lives on her own and when her house springs a leak, she calls her parents, they tell her they’ll get someone out to sort it and they do. Max.

Max is a plumber, he goes to Heidi’s to fix her pipes, but soon discovers that her pipes are worse than he originally thought. Once Max realises who Heidi is, he tries to orchestrate a way to not be the one doing the work.

Dirty Secret is a funny, witty, sarcastic, sweet and steamy read.

The characters are well thought out and they all fit the story perfectly. Each one shows both their good and bad traits, which makes each of them realistic and more endearing.

I love how Elizabeth manages to write such emotional but light-hearted stories, that always grab your attention and pull you in from the very beginning. Each page I turned I fell further into Heidi and Max’s world. Elizabeth’s writing style made me feel every bit of part of their lives as the other characters are.

If you want a fun, flirty and entertaining read then I highly recommend Dirty Secret.

✫.•° My Review °•.✫

This is the first book by AJ Love that I’ve read, and it won’t be the last.

This is a romantic comedy set in and around college.

Blakes decision to go for accommodation provided by the college starts off as a bit of a disaster, when the accommodation office assigns her accommodation with five guys. That’s right Blake is a female! The accommodation office didn’t realise this and placed her with Five Guys.

After realization she’s stuck there, she tries to make the best of a bad situation. Blake soon realises that one of her roommates is her usual type of guy, she also knows that she can’t go there. If she did and it went wrong life would become awkward, very awkward.

This Ain’t Love is an ingenious mix of fun, realism, attraction, temptation and a whole heap of denial! The book is packed with laugh out loud moments, that had me giggling to myself and had other people giving me odd stares in the canteen at work!

The characters are easy to relate to and very realistic, they interact well together and they each bring their own dynamic to the overall story. Blake and Cameron’s chemistry is palpable, they seem to rub each other the wrong way but at the same time they compliment each other’s personalities too.

The story sucked me in quickly and held me there right alongside Blake and Cameron until the very end. I was made to feel every bit a part of their story. I’m glad I’ve had the chance to meet Blake and Cameron.

This Ain’t Love is a great way to start this series. I’m looking forward to the next instalment.

If you’re looking for a funny, hot, sweet romantic comedy then I highly recommend This Ain’t Love.

✫.•° My Review °•.✫

I was fortunate enough to meet Tony at an author signing in Peterborough, where I purchased a signed paperback copy of Unsilent Grief.

Unsilent Grief is Tony’s first book and I feel that it shows potential. The storyline has clearly been thought through. The events flow well from one to the next. Tony includes enough details to allow the reader to be able to imagine clearly the events as they happen and to feel a part of them as they happen.

The characters are good, they work well together and interact well. Each one has their own traits and personalities which help to make them more multi-dimensional and realistic.

Tony’s overall writing style is good. It shows the potential to be really good as his work continues and he gains more confidence and experience. As I was reading the book, I did notice some mistakes with spelling and punctuation, nothing that would detract from the overall book but something that I feel could be polished out with a good proof-reader.

I enjoyed reading Unsilent Grief and I’m looking forward to seeing what the future holds for this author.

✫.•° My Review °•.✫

Let me start by saying that as I write this review, I have 2 chapters left to read. I’ve just not had the time to allocate to reading due to feeling poorly and life has been kicking my butt.

That said…

My Forever is an amazing book. It has ALL the feels and my heart hurts so much.

Chase and Kaelyn meet at the wrong the time, there is an undeniable spark and connection between these two, but life has other ideas for these two.

After a chance meeting, long after the first time they met a friendship begins to flourish between them. They slowly begin to open up to each other and reveal the secrets of their pasts.

Chase is struggling, he knows he wants to let Kaelyn in, but he feels that it is unfair to bring his baggage into her life. He’s conflicted, but he realises that it isn’t his decision to make, so he opens up fully to Kaelyn and hopes that she doesn’t run.

Chase is a strong, loyal, loving and selfless guy, he knows what he needs to do to help and protect those less fortunate than himself, he’s not scared to step up and put them first.

Kaelyn is trying to ignore her cheating ex who keeps texting her. After bumping into Chase at a bar and spending some time with him, she begins to realise that Chase is the one, even though she knows he’s just as unavailable now as he was at the New Year party when he had a wedding ring on.

Kaelyn enjoys spending time with Chase but she is confused by the mixed signals that she receives from him, especially as there is no explanation just cryptic sentences. Until the day he decides to bare all to her. When he does the understanding and empathy that she demonstrates is phenomenal!!

These characters are totally amazing. Each of them plays their role extremely well.

Chase is dealing with so much, he’s going through something that no one should ever have to, more so he’s doing it on his own. No one else knows and he has no support network for himself. He’s handing and dealing with it the best he can.

This book has caused me so much heart ache and so many tears! My Forever is written amazingly well, the thought, emotion and love that have been invested by Elena are clear to see and feel.

My forever captured my attention from the very first word and the more I read the more engrossed I became, the further into Chase and Kaelyn’s world I was pulled.

My Forever is a really really good book. Whilst it could be read as a standalone, I would highly recommend reading the entire series in order for the best experience.

Great work Elena!!
